for years the british and the americans have been fighting the war on terror. the first time in known history where a war has been fought against an abstract noun. we went into afghanistan following what is arguebly the second worse atrocity caused by mankind. i refer of course to 9/11 where planes flew into the twin towers and world trade centre at speeds of 500mph. but this war shouldve ended after the death of Osama bin laden and arguably before that. our war no longer encomoasses fighting in afghanistan against the taliban and al qaeda both of which were justified but it has infiltrated into our country not by means of terrorists occupying britain but through our laws and statutes. we need only look at the anti-terrorism, crime and security act of 2001 to learn that our fears have pushed us to a point where the war on terror has lead to our law enforcement agencies and our statutes in a way that is unconstitutional. we have laws allowing us to indefinitely hold terror suspects without charge. in britain we can be held for 96 hours after express permission from a custody officer more than 4 extensions on the initial holding period. and then without charge we are legally required to discharge people from custody. the anti terrorism act goes against this right. to a point where peoples rights to liberty are neglected to a point bordering on torture and its disgusting. our countries legal backbone is the human rights act of 1998 and the anti terrorism act
supports and advocates that it is okay to hold people indefinitely without charge is sickening. now dont get me wrong i get that fundamentalists are comitting terrorist atrocities and thats something that cannot be allowed to continue but we are meant to be a country based on rights of the people and violating them out of fear is simply bending knee to the wants of the terrorist. i do not sympathise with religious extremists who see fit to use their religion as a means to justfy comitting acts of terrorism, nor do i believe that these people deserve anything better than imprisonment indefinitely but to hold someone for such a length of time on a mere suspicion is unconstitutional (suspicion apparently means having a skin tone slightly more brown than david cameron) britain is in danger of shafting itself by violating treaties and rules that were set out by the EU, we get kicked out. we lose trade. our country falls deeper into recession and we’ll be far worse off than we are now. sort it out. legislation should not allow our own people to be subjected to what is quite frankly torture.
